Welcome to my online CV. My name is Samantha Heather and
I
am currently employed as a Year 5-8 English Teacher and Year 6 Form Tutor at
Newton Prep School in London. Previously I was Head of English and Year 3 Class
Teacher at Cameron House School. I am about to complete my fourth year of
teaching in London and prior to this I taught 3rd Grade at Colegio
Bolivar in Cali, Colombia for four years. My international experience is a strenth as I am familiar with various curricula and teaching practices, as well as
the international school life and culture.
Academically,
I am committed to teaching the curriculum in engaging ways that help students
connect to their learning. I always try
to integrate the arts and technology into my lessons. I
understand that all students have different learning styles, so differentiated
instruction plays a large role in my planning and teaching practices. I believe in giving prompt and constructive
feedback so that it is relevant to student learning and to help them improve.
I am an
advocate of strong school community and in the past I have enjoyed organizing
activities to bring the different school sections on campus together. I led staff teambuilding days, directed two
school wide music videos, was on the organizing committee for a national
educational forum held at my school, supervised a Primary Student Council,
facilitated a middle school student leadership retreat, organized grade wide
read-a-thons to raise money for charity, directed and choreographed school
musicals, represented my school and presented workshops at international
educational conferences, led a Destination Imagination team, instructed a Spanish Club and taught Zumba classes to my colleagues and pupils.
I have
developed a passion for helping students grow as leaders. With the knowledge and experience gained from
my Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership I have successfully integrated a
leadership program in my past classrooms. This was effective in helping
students become more aware of themselves, their actions, the consequences of
their actions, being accountable for their actions, and taking responsibility
for their actions. I believe that a true education is grounded not only in the
quality deliverance of the curriculum, but also in the dedication to helping
students grow socially as good citizens and human beings.
I am hard
working, a team player and a contributing member to the school community. With a good sense of humour and an
approachable personality, I believe that I would be a strong asset to your school. Please feel free to browse my website to see some of the projects and initiatives I have done at my schools.
Yours Sincerely,
Samantha Heather
